Is one week enough for Switzerland?

Forest or green landscape in Switzerland.

One week is enough for a very good Switzerland trip, but not for Lucerne, Zermatt, Jungfrau, Geneva, every scenic train and a side trip to Italy. Choose a compact route and let the mountains have weather space.

Answer

A strong one-week route usually needs restraint. Lucerne plus the Bernese Oberland is a classic because it gives old-town and lake atmosphere, then proper alpine time without a huge detour. Zurich plus Lucerne plus a few mountain days can also work cleanly. Zermatt is worth considering when the Matterhorn is central to the trip, but it should not be squeezed in as a quick name-check unless the rest of the map is disciplined. The main planning rule is simple: do not spend Swiss prices on Swiss logistics while giving the mountains only one fragile day to perform. Spend fewer nights in transit and more nights near the scenery you came for.
