Is a car worth renting in Provence?
A car is often worth it if Provence means villages, markets, lavender-country roads and rural stays. It is less necessary if the trip is built around Avignon, Aix, Arles, Nîmes and rail-friendly bases.

The car question should come after the route question. Travellers who want hill towns, vineyard roads, village markets and countryside accommodation will often find a car changes everything. Travellers mostly visiting Avignon, Arles, Aix or Marseille may be happier avoiding the parking and rental admin. The worst version is renting a car too early, dragging it through city stays, then barely using it for the part where it matters. Use it for the countryside chapter, then give it back.
