The Gili Islands are best when they answer a clear wish: small-island scale, snorkelling, diving, beach time, social nights or a slower pause after Bali or Lombok. They are weakest when added automatically because the name sounds obligatory. Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno do not deliver the same holiday, and the boat day matters more than the map suggests. For some travellers, the Gilis are the right island exhale. For others, they are a ferry detour that duplicates beach time they already had. Choose them for the mood you want, not because a Bali itinerary looked unfinished.
