Is Indonesia a good destination for families?
Indonesia can work well with children, especially with slower bases, pools, drivers and beach days. The family version should not be built around scooter chaos, rushed ferries or proving every island can be done.
Answer
Indonesia can be rewarding with children when the route stops trying to be heroic. Bali is the easiest family entry point because drivers, villas, pools, restaurants and beach bases are widely available. Lombok, the Gilis, Java or Komodo can work, but each adds a different layer of ferry, flight, road, heat or boat logistics. The family trip should prioritise bases with rest built in: pool time, short travel days, flexible food, early starts when heat matters and transport that does not depend on scooters. The country can give children beaches, temples, wildlife, rice fields and boat days. It just needs fewer moving parts than an adult backpacker route.
