Is one week enough for Cambodia?

Angkor Wat temple view.

One week is enough for a good Cambodia trip, but not for every version of Cambodia. Siem Reap plus Phnom Penh works; Siem Reap plus a slow coast works; adding both coast and border detours usually turns the week into transport.

Answer

A strong one-week Cambodia trip usually has two main bases, not four. Siem Reap gives you Angkor, markets, food and recovery time between temple days. Phnom Penh adds difficult but important history, while the coast offers rest if that is what the trip needs. Trying to combine Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Kampot, the islands and a Thailand or Vietnam border link can make the country feel more tiring than it needs to. The best short routes leave at least one tempting piece out.
