What scams and hassle patterns should Cambodia travellers prepare for?

Open shoreline and coastal water in Cambodia.

The hassle is usually practical: tuk-tuk pricing, border pressure, transport claims, tourist-zone overcharging and moments when you are hot, tired and carrying bags. Keep the easy parts boring before they become expensive.

Answer

Cambodia’s hassle is rarely improved by suspicion of everyone. It is improved by doing the dull things early: confirm transport, agree prices clearly, use official visa and ticket channels, keep valuables out of reach and avoid complicated decisions at borders or late at night. Tourist areas around major sights and transport points are where pressure concentrates. Build a little margin, and much of the friction becomes manageable background rather than the story of the trip.
