Mykonos makes sense if you want polished beach clubs, nightlife and a social scene. If you want quiet villages, value and slow tavern evenings, do not pay Mykonos prices for the wrong holiday.

Mykonos is not a mistake when it matches the brief. It does glamour, parties, attractive lanes and a highly managed beach scene very well. The problem is travellers adding it because the name feels compulsory, then being surprised by the cost, crowds and energy. A Greece trip built around ruins, food, family beaches or lazy villages may be stronger without it. If nightlife and a polished social island are the point, include it deliberately. If not, Naxos, Paros, Milos or Crete may give you more of what you imagined Greece would feel like.
