Indonesia can be inexpensive, but it is not automatically a cheap trip. Food and simple stays can still be good value, especially away from the most inflated tourist zones. The budget changes when you add Bali’s more polished areas, domestic flights, private drivers, ferry transfers, diving, Komodo boats, volcano tours, remote island stays or last-minute accommodation in popular seasons. The real question is not whether Indonesia is cheap. It is which Indonesia you are buying. A slow Bali–Lombok trip, a Java culture-and-train route and a Raja Ampat diving plan sit in very different budget worlds. Spend where the route genuinely changes.
