Is Battambang worth adding to a Cambodia itinerary?
Battambang can be worth it if you want a quieter town, countryside texture and a break from the main Siem Reap–Phnom Penh line. It is less convincing when every extra night is already fighting the route.
Answer
Battambang’s appeal is quieter than Angkor or Phnom Penh. It can add rural texture, slower streets and a sense of Cambodia beyond the most obvious route, especially if you are not rushing. The catch is opportunity cost: on a short trip, every Battambang night competes with Angkor recovery, Phnom Penh history or the coast. Add it when the itinerary has space for a softer inland pause. Skip it when it is only there because the map shows a possible stop.
