Is Bangkok, Luang Prabang and Koh Kood a good slow start?
It can be an excellent slow start, but the island should not be treated as a free add-on. Bangkok and northern Laos reward time; Koh Kood earns its place only when the beach pause is long enough to justify getting there.

The route has a good emotional shape: urban energy, a slower river-and-mountain section, then beach time with fewer decisions. The friction sits between those chapters. Bangkok to Laos is not the same trip day as Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw, and reaching Koh Kood adds another sequence of land and water transfers. The map lies here because each leg appears manageable in isolation. Together, they can make a supposedly slow route feel busy. Keep Bangkok substantial, give Luang Prabang enough ordinary time and add Nong Khiaw only when the north is a real priority. Then stay on Koh Kood long enough to stop thinking about the journey there. The route stops feeling slow when every place is kept and each stay is cut to the minimum.
