Komodo works because the day on the water keeps changing. One hour you are climbing the dry ridges of Padar above curved bays and open sea; later you may be walking with a ranger in dragon habitat, swimming from Pink Beach or snorkelling over the reef. Manta stops can be memorable, but wildlife is never guaranteed.
For most travellers, a full-day trip from Labuan Bajo gives you the main Komodo experiences without needing to sleep on the water. An overnight or liveaboard makes more sense when the journey between the islands is part of what you came for — early and late light, quieter hours on deck and less pressure to squeeze every stop into a single day.
Operator choice matters on any Komodo trip, and even more once you sleep on board. Check the actual boat, crew, sleeping setup, safety approach, current park access and what happens if weather or sea conditions disrupt the trip. Do not choose from the prettiest deck photo alone.
