Malaysia often feels easier than travellers expect because the basic transport tools are useful: rideshares in cities, buses between many towns, trains on some core routes, and domestic flights when distance starts pulling the country apart. The trap is assuming the same tool works everywhere. A KL–Penang route is a different problem from a Perhentian transfer, a Borneo wildlife route or a highlands detour. Build the itinerary around the transport that suits each section, not around a rule like “no flights” or “no cars”. The best Malaysia routes are practical without becoming soulless: use convenience where it protects the good days.
