The car-free version works best when you choose places that already connect well. It gets weaker when the plan leans into tea country, remote beaches, spread-out nature, rural food stops or wildlife logistics in Borneo. That does not mean you must drive; it means you may need tours, private transfers or cleaner cuts. Malaysia without a car is possible, but it rewards a route that accepts what public transport is good at.
