Vietnam is one of those places where money can go a long way, but the real cost may be attention. Bargaining, transport choices, app pickups, weather adjustments, food confidence, route cuts and street-level decisions all take energy. That can be part of the pleasure: the day feels alive, meals are rewarding, and small wins accumulate. But travellers who expect low prices to remove friction can come away irritated. Budget well, but budget energy too. Pay for comfort when it protects the route, keep enough margin for changes, and do not confuse cheapest with best. Vietnam is good value because the payoff is strong, not because every day is simple.
